Whenever I have a project to do, such as writing, studying, or even paying bills, I feel it’s required that I clean off my desk prior to starting the task at hand. Sounds reasonable, right? That is, unless you are me. I can spend hours cleaning my desk off, just to realize that I am too tired to do the actual project I set out to finish. I almost feel that the mounds of clutter that I have accrued could impact my work if I don’t thoroughly sterilize the scene.
Now don’t get me wrong…. There is no reason to put me on the show “Hoarders” and send the Hazmat team out in plastic suits and masks to decontaminate my apartment. You won’t find me waist deep in trash, lounging on a recliner, eating frosting and talking to my 40 cats, which I have personally named like they were my children. But I will admit to some clutter, which includes a small dust bunny under my desk that has now morphed into a dust rhino.
So what happens when I am preparing for the biggest exam of my career? I will be starting the process of taking my California boards to become a licensed Marital and Family Therapist next week. Over 7 years of preparation, studying, and working comes down to a 2-part test that begins on Monday morning. This is why my desk as been neglected, my blogging has been slightly delayed, coffee shops have become the new hang out spot and I drink Vanilla Chai Lattes like they’re going out of style.
Now for a fun fact…. only 62% of people pass their first time, and if I fail, I will have to wait 6 months before I can re-take the exam. But that won’t happen, because I am freakishly smart…. Or so I keep telling myself! So for now that dust Rhino can morph into a dinosaur, because I am off to the coffee shop, where they clear off the tables for you!

In the Past I have work on my own projects and it seamed that almost every thing else fell to the way side dishes, cleaning, etc… This just means you are laser focused on the task at hand. Just say to your when you are taking your test, “I’ve got this. I’ve got this.” And smile.
good luck : )
