Well folks, the time has come for me to pack my duffel bag (with enough sassy outfits to cloth a small country), grab my bug spray, and stash my Sinemet. I am going off the grid! My flight to San Francisco leaves tomorrow, where I will be meeting other campers from around the world to submit our digital devices and head to the Redwood Forest. It is called Camp Grounded… and yes, I am voluntarily doing this. Check out my blog when I originally told you about my exciting adventure.
I have decided to take this adventure because I am curious to see who I am under the Parkinson’s disease veil. PD is such a huge part of my life, but where is the little girl underneath it? Now my challenge, can I go 4 days at camp without using the P-word? Even worse… can I go 4 days without eating Fro Yo? But what am I afraid of… besides getting Mauled by a bear? The more I thought about it, I realized that when I tell people I have Parkinson’s disease, I don’t feel so different. It is like I have an excuse as to why I am dyskinetic or moving slow.
But I can use your help… I need to come prepared with a nickname. Any suggestions?

I wish you luck on your vacation–enjoy yourself, don’t tangle any important wires, avoid itchy plants, and the likely wildlife that might attack Seth Macfarlane. Come back Perky as you care to. You might keep a look out for tribbles-i hear they make wonderful pets.

Grace.
We all need that. Sorry it’s late!

Since you are not going to take your meds, you could use a little Spanglish and call it “Camp Sin a Med.” A nick name for you might be Spaz or Gimpy or WHAT-THE-HECK -WAS- I THINKiNG -WHEN- I- DECIDED- NOT- TO- BRING- MY- MEDS. A little cumbersome, but might apply. I may be “bottle is half empty,” but by not taking your meds, you might spend all your time acutely aware of being a Parkie – and a miserable one at that. I know = everyone is being so supportive and I’m being a sarcastic jerk , but you know I’m coming from a place of real concern for you. Take back up!

Oh no! I’m totally taking my meds! I’m not crazy! I’m just not going to try to say Parkison’s. I couldn’t imagine 4 days with no meds! Yuck!

P.M. Don’t worry – she’s not said she’s coming off her meds: that would be disastrous, dangerous and irresponsible (3 things she ain’t!).
However, I have to say it’s ambiguous at first reading – I was quite alarmed until the Fro bit!

Allison, I think Perky is just fine. Especially if you put a drawing of an old fashioned percolator with it.

How about Po Yo?
