I will admit that I have trouble asking for help. I know that I have encouraged my readers to ask for support when they need it, but truthfully it’s been a challenge for me. I know… say it isn’t so.
I recently wrote a blog post “When Parkinson’s isn’t the priority” where I explain that I am facing some medical challenges. To catch you up to speed, I have a fistula in my internal pouch (from my colon cancer days in 2001). My medical team ensures me that this isn’t anything that I could have prevented or caused. I had a drain placed… disturbing… that I had to keep in for 8 weeks and now it’s time for the next procedure, which will be removing the fistula. Sounds like a fun Friday, eh?
I am not super stoked to go through another surgery but this ain’t my first rodeo. I know what to expect however there is one little thing that is getting me down. I recently learned that this type of procedure has a 60% success rate. That means that 40% of patients just like me fail. If that happens, I will have to replace the drain, and then look into Plan B. The possibility of additional surgeries is terrifying to me.
But just like my Uncle Mark says, “If you knew that you had a 60% chance of winning the lottery, wouldn’t you play?” Uhhhhhh… yeah! Now I am ready to play and for the last few weeks, I have been preparing by taking care of me. Doing lots of Yoga, meditation, eating obscene amounts of FroYo and spending time with my dog Crash. Just preparing for my upcoming rendezvous in the operating room. But something is missing. My Wolfpack!
I believe in the power of sending energy out into the universe with intention and direction. Furthermore, I believe that we can lift each other when faced with difficult times. With that said, I am asking for your help. I need my Wolfpack to send me love and support for my surgery tomorrow. So head to that church, temple, monastery, synagogue or even appeal to your guru to perform a Homas on my behalf… f you could just keep me in your thoughts tomorrow, perhaps with all this energy I can play that lottery and win.
Allison,
Wishing & Praying for You!!

Thank you, from oversea!
First, I prayed. Then I forwarded your request to a Christian Parky I’ve never even met (but have contact with through the Parkinson’s community) whose contact list must be 20 fold my own. Then I forwarded it to the 120 people who just prayed me through my very recent DBS surgeries. Hey God, please take real good care of our Perky Parkie and Your dear, dear child, Allison.
Dale, Thank you for passing around my request.
So sorry to hear the news. Thoughts and prayers are always coming to you from your friends in Canada. Stay positive. Hey maybe we could rename you the PositivePerkyParkie. Wow try saying that 5 times fast.
I can’t say that 5 times fast! Lol! It’s like talking with Peanut Butter in your mouth. Thank you for your comment.
Ask and yee shall receive. I’m certain that you will be inundated with well wishes and prayers from the many of us who have never met you, yet feel as though you are a close member of our family. Your writings have always been that needed pickup that keeps us up and going. I can only hope that these comments give back a little bit of the help and encouragement that you have given to us. God bless.
Dave, thank you for your kind words. It made my day a little brighter.
All the very best for tomorrow! Positive vibes heading your way from the UK 🙂 Helen
I’m feeling those vibes from the UK Helen!
I will be praying that God will guide the surgeon’s hand to complete the surgery successfully, and also calm your anxiety.
1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Thank you, Art!
Hi Allison… thank you for reaching out – not to lend a hand but to take a step back, find stable footing and accept a helping hand.
Your Wolfpack, as you call it, through your honest, insightful and genuinely caring presentation of your life, has grown in its’ level of confidence that we can live with our relentless PD and still have a fruitful, meaningful life.
You’ve shown us how to accept our daily challenges, with humour and with seriousness ….never taking our lives and the simplest of it’s elements for granted.
Now, as you share your health predicament with us, we rally together, our hearts and minds coming to acknowledge the fact that even the best need help – that even the best can’t address every issue alone – they need to know that in the darkest of hours, they’re never alone….
Allison….. we are but a thought away, as we all stand by your side, offering our helping hands – reaching to you with hands that you have helped so often….cuz you are ‘the BEST’…
Thinking of you and wishing you a successful surgery and a healthy recovery….Shane.
