Having Parkinson’s disease (PD) can feel like you are riding in the back seat of a car with a crazy drunk driver. You have lost control of your life and PD has taken the wheel. You can’t rely on your body to move the way it used to. Everyday tasks that used to come with ease, now require focus and concentration. Emotions that you have never experienced come flooding into your head and it can become challenging to not feel overwhelmed. In that moment, you can feel helpless. So let me put this question out into the universe, what can you do today to help improve your Parkinson’s? Can you think of anything?
I will give you a tip….. Remember that Parkinson’s disease isn’t just a movement disorder and that doing activities that improve your mental state can also improve your physical body. Would getting a massage be relaxing and help improve your symptoms? Or what about laying on a warm sunny beach, (of course with the appropriate amount of sunblock) while the ocean air blows through your hair, as you listen to the sound of the waves rolling in? Or my personal favorite, laying in the middle of a puppy cuddle puddle… nothing compares to puppy kisses… I would like to get a candle made that smells like puppy breath, so I can fill my whole apartment with the fragrance of happiness. So have you come up with a few ideas? What if I told you that I came up with 100 things that you could do today to help you Parkinson’s? Don’t believe me? Time to blow your mind…

I joined this blog because my son has PD and it is presently advancing faster that the medical folks hoped. I enjoy the few I’ve received. I ask him what I can do besides pray (we live about 100 miles apart). He always tells me just keep praying. I’ve gotten better about remembering to tell him I I love him when we speak. That’s for sharing.

Happy to hear that you are enjoying my blog. Sending positive thoughts to you and your son!

Thanks Allison – You made my day. I will add a few-
1. Start a new Brillo pad
2. Hand that guy with a cardboard sign at the stop light a couple of chocolate bars from the grocery bag sitting next to you on the passenger set. You don’t need them!!
3. Pay the dollar toll for the car behind you as you enter the turnpike
4. Leave a note of gratitude under your caregiver’s AM cup of coffee
5. Accept the invite from that start-up company to be a volunteer for a feasibility study involving a device that may help PD with gait .
PerkyParkie says
Conner, awesome ideas! Thanks for sharing.

I saw the preview in my email and said out loud “No way she wrote 100 things!” She wrote 100 things. {Golf clap}
Mine:
1-90. Eat Skittles.

95. Eat lunch with my dog.
96. Catch up on episodes of Grey’s Anatomy before the new season starts.
97. Heal.
98. Watch the sunset on the beach. I’ve never done that.
99. Love.
100. Care.
Yours: Updated little miss rerun…
101. Eat a donut chicken sandwich.
102. Swallow or spit out a donut chicken sandwich.
103. If you live near John Wayne Airport, have dinner with me in November? (It won’t be a donut chicken sandwich)
104-Infinity. If not, cry yourself to sleep every night.
PerkyParkie says
John,
Love your list! Especially the amount is skittles you’re going to consume in one day. Original flavor or tropical or zombie 🧟♀️? What are you coming to the OC for in November? Anything fun?
Colleen Hosken says
My God woman, you are awesome!
PerkyParkie says
Colleen, thank you!

I’ve always wanted to know: what is your favorite flavor of frozen yogurt?
BTW I always enjoy your posts.
PerkyParkie says
I’m a tart girl! Of something fruity…. Now you’ve done it! I have to go get some fro yo!
Allie says
Thanks Allison, I needed to read this. I was super grumpy yesterday and was caring for my toddler granddaughter who was also grumpy. If we can’t find any rainbows today, we will dance in the rain. 🙂
PerkyParkie says
Glad post could help you push the gray clouds away! Keep on dancing!

Puppy Breath is a scented candle now?? I wonder is writing a person’s favorite activities on a calendar weeks in advance would be a good plan?
PerkyParkie says
Putting fun activities on your calendar? That is great idea, but still doesn’t bring me any closer to puppy kisses!

Great blog topic Allison…
– Remind a fellow Parky how they inspire me
– Accept the fact that my bradykinesia may effect my career aspiration as a pickpocket or slight of hand magician
– Be comfortable saying no, if I’m unable at that time
– Hold the door for the next person behind me
– Push myself a little harder when exercising
– Remind my PD each day how lucky it is to have me as a partner
– Compliment a smile shared with a friend
– Accept that my long term PD scares me
– Give up that prime parking spot duel…I’ll walk it from further back in the lot, thank you.
– Inform my PD that its paying its own fare and accommodation if I’m able to attend WPC this year – I’m working on it!
– Educate my Parkinson’s Posse on my PD progression
– Start early morning mall walking…more washrooms available…one accident too many
– Take the time to slow down and watch a rabbit in the garden eat some of our coveted flowers
PerkyParkie says
Love it!

I made a tray of brownies and two dozen cupcakes for my grandson’s birthday party tomorrow. I am tired, yes, but I’m happy and he is thrilled because “Grandma’s cake is so much better than from the store!” Yes, I still have to clean up the kitchen, but I’ll get it done. It is worth it!
PerkyParkie says
That is awesome! But when do I get some samples?!
